God’s Intentions Towards Us

Posted by

I get it.  It is hard to trust God.  If it were easy, we’d have a world full of trusting Christians who would then look more like Jesus so the world would truly be a better place.  Instead we get this broken world of scarcity and invulnerability of people trying and trying and trying to do it (whatever it is) on their own.

That doesn’t change God’s intentions toward us.

God’s intentions toward us is good.  So God has given us both his promise and his oath.  These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.  Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence.  This confidence is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.  Hebrews 6:18-19

Look.  There is that word courage, another word for bravery.

In a Bible nutshell, this is what I would say God’s intentions toward us is:

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.  He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. Ephesians 1:3-8.

Along with all of the other scriptures found in the Bible, this is God’s promise to us—and it is unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.  His intentions toward us are good.

I can hear you add a but.

In another nutshell, these are four truths about God that are found cover-to-cover in the Bible:

  • God treasures me
  • God protects me
  • God has a plan for my life
  • God likes me

Take a moment and rank these from 1 to 4 in the order you believe these to be true for you.

Take another moment, a long moment.  Why is that one ranked #4?  There is a reason why.  What is that reason?

My guess to get to the reason it is going to be painful.  Something painful and real happened to you.  But know this:

God’s hold on you is stronger than your hold on him.  And he has no intention of letting you go.

That is God’s intention towards you.
